Hardware Engineer (FL18-01)



Develops designs for the installation of components and assemblies into chassis, racks, cabinets, workstations, customer facilities, and/or shelters. Plans, directs, reviews, and coordinates preparation of project documentation to ensure customer contract and company requirements are met. Prepares specifications, evaluates vendors, and analyzes test reports. This position is on the GPS Control Segment Sustainment (GCS) contract based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Responsible for daily configuration and operation, troubleshooting, fault isolation, and corrective and preventive maintenance actions necessary to repair and restore TSTS SATCOM systems. Uses general purpose and specialized test equipment in the performance of system corrective and preventive maintenance. Performs procedures and processes used in operations, maintenance and logistics actions. Quickly responds to circuit outages and coordinates with distant end facilities and local Systems/Users, when necessary, in order to restore communications services. Troubleshoots and resolves minor software configuration issues to restore testing operations. Assists with site physical and information security, performs minor COMSEC custodian duties, performs equipment Custodian Account responsibilities, performs records/configuration management duties, completes forward supply point/bench stock logistics duties, coordinates test equipment calibration, and completes small computer repair duties. Work is performed on-site and may include off-shift hours, weekends and very occasional travel. Supports a 24 X 7 weekly on-call rotation schedule if and when testing schedules require.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, with 5 or more years of professional experience, or 3 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree. Equivalent qualifications with experience/education combinations may be considered.


Must have a thorough knowledge of and experience working with DoD SATCOM and DISA Telecommunications Systems. Must understand signal flow and end-to-end configuration diagrams. Hands-on experience performing electrical, mechanical, and/or RF troubleshooting, hardware installation, and testing, and fault corrections on SATCOM, Broadband communications and/or satellite ground systems equipment. Experience with spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), fiberscopes, multi-meter, BER test sets, and other RF/electronics test equipment. Able to work independently without direct supervision with demonstrated time management skills and to work and communicate harmoniously in a team environment with government and other contractors. Attain DoD 8570 approved baseline certification for IAT Level II (IE CompTIA Security+, GSEC SSCP, CCNA-Security) within 6-months of hire.


Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment or independently as required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.


Tower Climber certification, experience with large antenna handling. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and ability to climb ladders and traverse elevated walking surfaces. Experience operating and loading COMSEC equipment and an understanding of COMSEC policy and procedures. Experience with the Global Positioning System (GPS) in operational, developmental, or sustainment capacities.
